DESCRIPTION:
Excellent Book This book is one of the most stimulating books on fluid mechanics that I have come across. It is very carefully written and well organized. The physics behind the phenomena are vividly explained. The subject is, mathematically not difficul. Excellent problems at the end of each chapter.. Great for Engineering Five years ago, I took my first course in fluid mechanics using this book by F. White; now I am a graduate student in the field. This book was the first to instill upon me a desire to pursue advanced studies in the dynamics of fluids. The major strength of this book is that it is remarkably un-assuming of the reader. Most of the topics discussed are self-contained with much of the physics and mathematics expressed within accessible bounds to a young, becoming Mechanical Engineer. In particular, the book contains many good, fully worked-out examples and problems. To begin, the first secti. Decent Book This book represents my first foray into fluid mechanics. I don't really read my textbooks too much--in general I find them boring and hard to learn from--but I have done the many of the problems from the first few chapters. While the problems are good and there are a lot of them in each chapter, for the most part they are formulaic and repetative. While this is good for learning the material at first, it does get tedious after a while. For the purposes of a class like the one I'm in, this textbook does well, although I think I would need better if I were attempting to learn this mater
A DVD containing EES is free with every book, and Appendix E describes its use and application to fluid mechanics. EES (Engineering Equation Solver) software is included so that students can effectively use the computer to model, solve and modify typical fluid mechanics problems. Students can progress from general ones to those involving design, multiple steps and computer usage. Users of the book can also download and distribute the full Academic Version of EES, which is renewed annually with a new username and password. White's Fluid Mechanics, sixth edition will continue the text's tradition of excellent problems of different types, precision and accuracy, and good application of concepts to engineering. Word problems are included to build readers’ conceptual understanding
