A truly enjoyable read cover to cover with fantastic historic photos - quite a few I have never seen! This title and a trip to Washington's TWO Air and Space museums are HIGHLY recommended!!. A fun book Steven G. Lipke the t-bird was the first operational jet trainer, developed from the F-80 Shooting Star. there are many black and white photos in this book and several in color. Some of the quality is not there, but you have to understand the color film, the process and the cameras that were available at that time. The kicker for me was the back of the book that has a listing of all surviving T-33s, with some photos included too. All and all a nice book on this aircraft.
It was also a testbed in many development programs including tests on ejection seats and missile guidance systems, and continues yet today in various military and civilian roles.. In the fifty years since its introduction the T-33 has trained more jet pilots than any other training type. In addition to this role, it has served, and continues to serve, as an attack fighter the AT-33 and as a reconnaissance aircraft the RT-33 in several foreign air forces. The T-33 jet trainer was derived from the Lockheed F-80C Shooting Star, the USAF's first operational jet fighter, in 1948
