Painted screens were a major component of traditional Japanese architecture, and their decoration reflected the leading schools and movements in Japanese art. "GORGEOUS!" according to J. DeRosa. THIS BOOK QUALIFIES AS A WORK OF ART IN ITS OWN RIGHT, AND AS A WINDOW INTO A SPECIAL ART FORM. I GAVE IT AS A GIFT BUT HATED TO LET IT GO.. Arrived in perfect condition Stuart This is a heavy volume, but was well packed for delivery. No corner bumps or other damage.The best of the inexpensive art books on Japanese screen paintings, with wonderful full page and fold-out color images. IT is hard to reproduce screen paintings effectively because of their great size, but this volume pulled it off.. "So Edofying" according to Thomas Thornton. I am quite excited to have found this marvelous volume still available, originally $150, now less than $50. I found it in the reading room of the Japanese gallery at the Metropolitan Museum, dogeared and doubly heavy, as noted. I am ordering this book right now. And lastly may I say that the two commentaries were very helpful in validating my appreciation.
