DESCRIPTION:

Nio said Great book for students. This is a well-written book for new learners on optimal control. I am using it as a textbook for a modern control class and find it is of great help. The context is easily readable. The mathematic derivation is carefully elaborated by the author. The author chooses insightful examples and explains them well. Useful matlab codes have been included in the book. A limitation of this book seems to be the miss of the stochastic optimal control Systems (Kalman filter). However, the author said is going to be include. crystal clear Turtleman Excellent !It is rare to have such clarity in grad level textbook.Everything is crystal-clear, and the examples use step-by-step approach. You can "understand" the topic, instead of blindly using the equations in highlighting box.I have another textbook required by class, but this book is the one I use to teach myself. One thing it is missing is that it doesn't cover LQG.However, I think it is minor problem, compared to the quality of the book.. R. Mendonsa said Good introduction to Optimal Controls. A very useful guide for professional and graduate students involved in control systems. It is more of a theoretical book and requires prior knowledge of basic control systems. The problems are more mathematically based and there is a lack of linkage to practical use.The examples are great and can be easily implemented in Matlab. Also, the author is quite approachable.

It provides a solid bridge between "traditional" optimization using the calculus of variations and what is called "modern" optimal control. Among this book's most outstanding features is a summary table that accompanies each topic or problem and includes a statement of the problem with a step-by-step solution. It also treats both continuous-time and discrete-time optimal control systems, giving students a firm grasp on both methods. Students will also gain valuable experience in using industry-standard MATLAB and SIMULINK software, including the Control System and Symbolic Math Toolboxes.Diverse applications across fields from power engineering to medicine make a foundation in optimal control systems an essential part of an engineer's background. Yet even those purportedly designed for beginners in the field are often riddled with complex theorems, and many treat
