Amazon Customer said Excellent Writer. Full confession first--this isn't my genre and I have no idea what readers of this genre expect. But if great writing, exciting action scenes and well-developed characters are your expectations, The Gilded Scarab will deliver. The dialogue is fresh, scene setting is expert and Anna Butler knows how to keep the pages turning. The world she creates feels real.. I loved the last hundred pages or so Wow, this is one of the hardest books to rate. I loved the last hundred pages or so. Really didn’t liked the first 100 or so and the middle, well parts were entertaining. Once I got past the first person narrative, something else I’m not fond of (blurb, doesn’t lead you to believe it is) and the story stopped being a “day in the life” type setting. We really started getting into a great story line. Rafe, an ex-aeronaut for Her Britannic Majesty was injured and now living back in Londinium. Just bought a coffee shop and is trying to stay out of Ho. Claire M. Johnson said Witty, smart, and a cracking good story. A treat to read!. What a great book! The dialogue is crackerjack, the world-building amazing, and the characterization fully developed. Imagine steampunk London run by a cadre of political houses, each vying for mastery over the other by any means possible. The scions of these houses are bound by the strict demands of their elders.
