This book differs from other texts on acupuncture points in that it is not concerned with the basic theories of TCM. Dr So related the practicality of point use and emphasises the selection of points for the treatment of particular symptoms and conditions. Rather, it is a formulary and clinical reference developed from the clinical tradition of Ching Tan An, Tsang Tien Chi, and Tin Yau So. For each point he lists: clinical effects, disease, symptoms and energetic conditions. The book has a superb index to aid access to information.
A book for all acupuncturists Dr. Tin Yau So is often called the "Father of American Acupuncture." He was the founder of the New England School of Acupuncture, the oldest school of Chinese medicine in the U.S., and was one of my grand-teachers.This book is a very detailed description of the location of acupuncture points. It details not only how to find each point but also how to needle the points and what reaction to expect (a feature unique to this text). Dr. So also gives lengthy effects for each point.As Dr. So was trained in China prior to the communists' invention of "TCM" style acupuncture, many of his point location are not stan. A Classic Text James Tin Yau So was an important figure in the development of acupuncture in this country. This book and its companion volume are a bit unique in that the author's education in acupuncture predates the current so-called TCM acupuncture. His point locations are sometimes different than what are now considered standard locations. He also has other unique qualities to his work. The indications for points are interesting. I'm not sure if I've ever seen a point book that lists HT-7 as being indicated for "foolishness". On the other hand some point combinations he lists have been quite useful to me in practice. . It provides a extensive index of points and how to's to find them. Written in an easy to read format. A must for the health care worker's shelf
