Five Stars Mark Flora very nice book. Pole's book is like a guide to and through the past of Kicking kgraggio Was at the Spiral Tunnels and the Big Hill this week. Pole's book is like a guide to and through the past of Kicking Horse and the epic problems the decision to build the railroad here caused and continues to cause. While I was around, a non railroader friend picked up both this book and Pole's book about Rogers Pass history and problems it caused for the railroad, and became very interested in this wonderful story.. An excellent concise and engaging history with great photos. Graeme Pole successfully presents a captivating historical account of the Canadian Pacific Railways construction through Kicking Horse Pass in the Canadian Rockies. Unlike most historical accounts, I was unable to put this book down until I finished reading it cover to cover. I then went out to trace some of the history by using the thoughtfully included train spotting guide which only helped make the history "come alive" even more. While the plentiful photos alone make this book worth the price, it is the writing and many points-of-interest "side bars" that make it a "must have" on the bookshelf of anyone interested in trains, the people who
