They are essential. What stitches together the collection is a sense of gratitude. And the great stuff in it – the title piece for instance – is classic." —Buffalo News"Remarkable. As this ebullient and eloquent collection amply shows, Angell can deftly touch that reader, on whom he bestows this lovely gift."  —Kirkus (Starred Review)  “Every entry, long or short, light or serious, is united by seemingly effortless, finely wrought, remarkably observant, offhandedly eloquent yet always self-effacing prose. I want to talk to him about baseball, and writing, and what he was doing at my age, and how he made it from there to here. Any reader will benefit from meandering the fascinating corridors of this old man’s mind."—Lincoln Journal Star"A 'choose-your-own-

Every Aspiring Writer Should Read Roger Angell Simply put, Roger Angell, senior fiction editor and a long-time contributor with The New Yorker magazine, is one of the greatest living (thankfully) American writers. “This Old Man -- All in Pieces” is a compelling and enjoyable gathering of essays, book reviews, “Talk of the Town” columns, letters, short stories, and more.Known for writing “The Summer Game,” the seminal book about baseball in the 1960s (to the early ‘70s) “This Old Man” is a compilation of his. One Old Man enjoys Another's Stories Bruce M. Bailey As a long-time fan of Roger Angell (via many yrs of reading The New Yorker) the book didn't disappoint me---far from it. Simple math finds me 8 yrs his junior, so the title alone was enough to get me to buy it. A lot of it does in fact relate to the magazine and his experiences as an editor from early in his post-college life, so I'm not sure how much appeal those parts will have for general readers. For me it was basically a pleasure---I'm glad he won't be editing this contribution!. Memories of great days, great games and how to age gracefully Roger loves sports, and knows more people than most anyone. His decades with the New Yorker put him in touch with Babe Ruth, mayor LaGuardia and all the rest.since he is alive and vital at 93, his memory is fantastic and anybody over fifty will love this book.he makes getting older not a daily chore but something to enjoy and cherish. Thanks Roger.
