Uneven but Uplifting Nicky d' I was expecting more from a book with a title beginning with Best. A couple of the stories weren't even good, much less best. This wasn't just my opinion: we read this book in our Gay men's book club. We also agreed that erotica is something different than porn in that erotica actually has a story and is well written, while porn just has to bring you off. Some of these stories are erotica; some are porn. Some of the well written stories presented trite or really? situations. Stories that actually did approach Best, for me, were: "Before the Plane", "Sunday in the Park", "Foreigners in Sitges", and "Fo. Charles Dickens said Great reading!. I liked this compilation a lot. As with any compilation, I did not find the quality of the stories equal, some were far better than others. I am sure that another guy reading them would not make the same judgments as I have done. Overall, however, the stories were great. I particularly liked the threesome involving the college students, and the two guys on the boat. Instead, many of the stories could better be described as just strange and this is coming from someone who gets off on a variety of genres in gay fiction. I will definitely hesitate to buy another of this series.
