DESCRIPTION:
McMinn’s nomadic childhood deprived her of all but the shallowest of roots, set in a West Virginia farm owned by her father’s family that she came to love during summer visits. Many years later, when presented with the opportunity to relocate, McMinn decided to follow her heart and head back to the hollers. The recipes and craft how-to’s provided at the end of the book open the door for all readers, experienced or green, to get a little taste of country life. Suzanne McMinn, a former romance writer and founder of the popular blog chickensintheroad, shares the story of her search to lead a life of ordinary splendor in Chickens in the Road, her inspiring and funny memoir.Craving a life that would connect her to the earth and her family roots, McMinn packed up her three kids, left her husband and her sterile suburban existence behind, and moved to rural West Virginia. Chickens in the Road I greatly enjoyed this memoir. Partly because it reminded me some of my own life, and partly because I liked the descriptions of farm life and animal stories. And I never even knew there was a blog that it came out of, I'll definitely be checking that out. After a div. Wonderful! P. Watkins Anyone who has known me for any length of time knows I am a harsh judge when it comes to the books I read. They are too detailed, too long, too dull, too wordy. My biggest pet peeve is when they use fancy vocabulary which requires me to look up every other word. Writ. Farmology Learned a lot about farm animals and backwoods areas in West Virginia. Often wondering why she just didn't give in and move away. Kind of repetitive in the beginning and throughout the book in spots. But an interesting read.
