His service involved investigations into kidnappings, murders, strike violence, burglary ringsall manner of cases. In a career spanning three decades, Ranger Rigler witnessed an era of great political and social turbulence and change in the state as well as within the Ranger force he had sworn to serve. Along the way, he saved a life or two; others, he could not.. That something else” turned out to be an appointment to the Texas Rangers. Some he solved; others remained elusive

A Customer said An engaging look at the day to day life of a modern Ranger.. Rigler gives the reader insight into his life and experiences as a transition-era Texas Ranger. His was a time between the saddle-bound frontier types and the higher tech crime solving Rangers of today. The writing is clear and poignant with no apologies for the more primitive, yet more effective methods of crime fighting used by the Rangers of the previous generation. A devout Christian, Ranger Rigler acknowledges that he was somewhat atypical in appearance and demeanor, but no less effective in pursueing those on the wrong side of the law. An intriguing and satisfying read.. Excellent book A Customer I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and highly recommend it. The author tells it as he saw it. Not the standard romanticized Texas Ranger book. Should be on the bookshelf of any afficianado of literature on law enforcement, Texas Rangers, or Texas history.. A great book. The Ranger in the back row far David M. Turner A great book. The Ranger in the back row far left on the cover is my uncle.
