JCK said An excellent general account of the "Late and Never Early Railway". A good and comprehensive view of the LNER from 10.000 feet, easy to read and illustrated with many excellent and unusual photographs. Covers the big picture well, and provides background, but inevitably it does not have the space to go in to much detail on locomotives, rolling stock, freight patterns or passenger services. A good place to start any study of the company and worth having in my library for the illustrations alone.. A good survey. Anybody interested in British railways will like this and the others in the series. By now I've bought all four. The only weakness is that it could use more maps.
