DESCRIPTION:
A unique combination of artistry and technical virtuosity -- the simplest and clearest guide yet to building curvaceous boats from wood.
"A masterpiece!" according to Leon Steyns. This book is a very well illustrated account on cold-molding and has a beautiful and clear lay-out, which makes it easy to read. But more importantly: the content is superb. Because the author has chosen to write for the (beginning) backyard boatbuilder, it is actually a step-by-step guide! One of the most difficult stages of boatbuilding, the lofting process, is explained very thoroughly and illustrated by clear drawings (also by the author). But there's more: lots. Very informative I'm nowhere near a professional boatbuilder, and I don't even know all of the terms they often use. I've read several books on boat design, and built a couple of strip planked boats of about 20'. From my limited experience, this was a great read. The author has a way of spelling things out in layman's language, and the illustrations come at the right time in the reading process. I learned a lot from this book, and the techniques don't seem at all dated.Waddie. A boatbuilder needs a book like this in his library Catalano Lorenzo A must for any boatbuilder. Clear, very practical in it's explanations. A really handy and complete boatbuilding manual.
