DESCRIPTION:
Readers will be enlightened by the comprehensive information they'll find in this all-new collector's guide from America's most trusted source, Antique Traderregistered. There are thousands of types of lamps and lighting devices that have been produced over the past 200 years and this new book brings together current pricing information on all the major varieties. Detailed descriptions of 2,000 items, highlighted by more than 300 black and white photos, will provide background on everything from primitive Betty lamps and whale oil lamps through the great variety of Victorian kerosene lamps, as well as colorful and unusual lighting from the first half of the 20th century.
The editor may be enthralled, but I wasn't John This book follows the general form of most antique guides like Miller's and Carter's with lots of pictures and a guide to price. However rather than include an image of each piece roughly 70% of the lamps are only described in words not illustrated. "Candle lantern, tin, upright square form w/the sides composed of vertical tin strips originally enclosing three panes of glass, square tin base and top w/pierced conical cap & large ring handle." No image. Now imagine trying to identify a lamp you have in your hand with ten thousand descriptions and hardy any photos! On the back cover, it claims to be the only comprehensive price guide covering. Lighting opinionated I am basically interested in oil lamps and I found that there was very little emphasis on this. If you are interested in other types of lighting, this book might be ok.. Four Stars Very nice book for the lamp and candle collectors.
