His ability to do so is both timely and important. A peek inside.. Surety. His potential audience is at a critical juncture in medical-political development, particularly in the United States, and his impactful prose is already vitally felt by a growing number of readers. Each new essay challenges his readers to think and feel, taking on the varying perspectives of his challenging, endearing and beloved patients, and of family members of the ill or dying. His unique delivery is simple and eloquently succinct. Jordan's words deepen our understanding of the unwelcome, or sometimes welcome, arrival of Death. These various reading audiences either nod knowingly, based on their own similar experiences, or burst into tears as they "get it" that a physician is called to devote such an ample measure of body, heart and soul to their compassionate care. Jordan Grumet delivers this news powerfully and persuasively. Wonder. Doubt. In story after short story, Jordan reveals to us just how he is able to channel a full range of emotions, healthily and consciously, into his daily interactions. Wonderfully Difficult Read. Jordan Grumet’s book, “I Am Your Doctor,” a collection of his blog posts, is a difficult yet pleasurable book to read. That may not seem like a beaming recommendation, but please hear me out. He is a wordsmith, with easy prose and a familiar tone that brings you into his confidence without it seeming uncomfortable. He tells stories of encounters with patients and their effect on him. He tells of the shared pain, between doctor and patient, when the healthcare system prevents what is necessary for good care. He gives a keen and accurate view of what many people wonde. Our "Healthcare" System is in Trouble I've long been an admirer of Jordan's skill as a storyteller -- actually, I'm green with envy -- and his empathic devotion to his patients. Each of his stories immediately grab and hold a reader's attention from beginning to end. Bottom line, he cares truly cares about each of his patients, and it shows in his writings. He is also deeply concerned about the increasing industrialization of medicine to the point where it's becoming more like a conveyor belt than the art of healing more about curing/fixing the most obvious problems with the quickest, lowest cost solutions. Unfortunate. "Practicing and Living Relationship Medcine" according to Stephen C Schimpff, MD. Dr Jordan Grumet’s new book is a must read for anyone who cares – cares about their health, cares what they or their family receive from medical professionals, cares about what the doctor or nurse offers to their patients. I have read Dr Grumet’s blog intermittently for the past few years. Always it leaves me with the sense that here is a real human being doing what he does best – caring for patients, one at a time and in the process trying to care for himself and his family. His book title - “I Am Your Doctor” - implies not a fact but a responsibi
