DESCRIPTION:
The best source I know of for working with pregnant women an outstanding reference. Sharon Burch, MSN, ARNP, Holistic Pathology for Body-Centered TherapistsThe kind of book that makes a difference wonderful reading for the mother-to-be as well as the massage therapist. Paul St. John, LMT
No Massage Techniques Included I'm a massage therapist and found this book to be a helpful resource in a number of areas (detailed below), but was disappointed that it didn't include any pregnancy massage techniques. (Instead, the author simply suggests using the same massage strokes used for other clients.) The author is a midwife, and the book is written from this perspective, rather than that of a massage therapist. That said, I found this book to be a good reference on the anatomy of pregnancy, the mother-to-be's experience through each trimester, safety precautions for massage, and some comfort tips to address symptoms such as headaches & n. A Customer said Not Much About Massage. If you are pregnant and "expecting" to learn about how massage should be performed on pregnant women you will be sorely disappointed. The contents are mainly a rehash of all the pregnancy information you will have probably read in other books specific to pregnancy. "Massage During Pregnancy" focuses largely on the business aspects of the massage industry and contraindications for massage during pregnancy. In effect, it does a good job of teaching what should not be done and nothing at all on what should be done.. "Massage During Pregnancy" according to A Customer. I feel this is the best book on the market dealing directly with massage and the pregnant client. Massage During Pregnancy explains how beneficial massage is from the beginning of the pregnancy through labor and the postpartum period. The author did not forget the new arrival and devotes a chapter to the benefits of infant massage. I highly recommend this book for any woman thinking about pregnancy as well as all massage therapists working with pregnant women.
It covers the normal anatomy and physiology of pregnancy, and the phychological changes and adjustments of pregnancy. It is a comprehensive look at normal pregnancy, labor and delivery and the role of the massage therapist as a member of the pregnant woman's prenatal care team. Chapters are devoted to infant massage, labor support, marketing of massage, therapist as a doula, record keeping, and a final chapter from the author about the most frequently asked questions by readers. The book is approved by National Certification Board of Therapeutic Touch and Massage for twelve hours of Home Study Continuing Education. This is the new and revised Fourth Edition of Massage During Pregnancy
