DESCRIPTION:
Updated Edition Dennis Webb There are many complaints about sloppy editing of the 2008 hardcover edition of this book in the Amazon reviews that several people posted for that edition. This softcover edition from 2011, very handsomely produced on high-quality paper, is described as an "updated edition", not just a reissue of the 2008 hardcover. I tried to find in this book the inaccuracies listed by the reviewers of the hardcover, but I could not locate the maps or text for most of them, and the page numbering also does no. "The photos and maps and drawings are excellent. This is great history about the opening of" according to J.S. Bach Fan. So much detail. This book is heavily researched. The photos and maps and drawings are excellent. This is great history about the opening of the eastern and western part of the U.S, Canada, and some Mexico.
It maps the spread of the networks across the country, showing the stations and important intersections, the layout and location of major bridges and tunnels, and much more. It examines railroad technology, from the early steam engines, through diesel and electric locomotives. It also details the building of stations, railroad constructions and factories that grew up around the railroad network. Social history is explored, covering the movement of people, farm produce and manufactured goods, giving a real insight into the role that rail transportation played.. With over 400 high quality maps, plans, and photographs this book brings the subject to life, revealing all aspects of rail transportation and technology
