DESCRIPTION:
And with U.S. The federally funded Northeast Corridor Improvement Program has provided an expanded Northeast Corridor electrification, with high-speed trains that are giving the fastest rail passenger service ever seen in North America, while still other high-speed corridors are planned for other parts of the country. Before the outbreak of World War II, the country had some 2,400 route-miles and more than 6,300 track-miles operating under electric power, far more than any other nation and more than 20 percent of the world’s total. Today, electric operation of U.S. In almost every instance, electrification was a huge success. By the 1970s, it was the Soviet Union, with almost 22,000 electrified route-miles, that led the way, and the U.S. railroads is back in the limelight. Running times were reduced. had declined to 17th place. Yet despite its many triumphs, electrification of U

D. Kjeldgaard said Reserve a place of honor on your shelves. An excellent review of electrification history, methods, and machines. The book is printed on heavy, glossy paper, which preserves the clarity of photographs and diagrams. All the technical details and definitions are fascinating, too! I'm working on assembling a complete collection of Mr.Middleton's works - he was a true authority on electric traction. By the way. The Best Electrification Book Out There Matt Mason I bought this book with high expectations, and every one was met. It covered all of the early electrifications in as much detail as could be given without boring me. It covers the pros and cons of AC vs. DC, the wars between which one was "better" for mainline electrification, and the differences in 3rd rail and the different types of overhead.I read the whole boo. Gorgeous! This is easily the best book I have seen on the subject. Admittedly, there is maybe only a better one (in French, hard to find). The way things are treated sets a standard on railroad literature; you can find equivalent levels only on more "serious" subjects, e.g. ships. I know of various european books that actually were inspired by this one.
