DESCRIPTION:
An excellent read A really enjoyable exploration of Panti Bliss. Loved the stories of Japan and the early clubbing days in Dublin. The section about Pantigate and its lasting impact on Irish society was so well written and thought provoking.. "Thank you, Rory O'Neill" according to J. Albrecht. My partner, Sam, and I visited Dublin in November 2015 and happened upon the Pantibar. It's there that we saw an ad for "The Queen of Ireland," which was a documentary about Rory O'Neill, aka Panty Bliss. We wound up seeing the film while we were in Dublin and were incredibly moved by Rory's story. I was glad to find his bo. Very well done. I found myself in the Pantibar last summer and really enjoyed it. This book is a wonderful look into a life so different I n some ways but familiar in others. Rory is a great story-teller. I learned more than a strait grandma probably needed to, but I'm so glad I did.

Eleven years later, the Pope visits Ireland, and things will never be the same again. This is the story of Rory O'Neill's journey from the fields to becoming Panti Bliss, the voice of a brave new nation embracing diversity, all the colours of the rainbow and, most of all, a glamorous attitude. In a small town in the west of Ireland, a beautiful baby boy is born. 1968. At the Pontiff's mass in Knock, the little boy has an epiphany that will set him on the road to become the biggest, boldest, and most opinionated drag queen Ireland has ever known. It's also the story of a misfit who turned his difference into a triumphant art form; of coming to terms with HIV; of political activism; and of 'Pantigate', and the speech that touched a million lives. Welcome to the world of Panti - adored, fun drunk aunt to the world - and her creator Rory, in their own inimitable words.. He enjoys an idyllic country childhood: privileged, carefree, surrounded by love - and pet sheep
